CHARACTER
Name: Bolin
Canon: Legend of Korra
Timeline: After the end of the first season.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

It is not possible to sum down Bolin in one word. His character is filled with many good parts, albeit with some bad, too. In almost every situation where he’s present, he’s shown a stubborn, never give up attitude. He is often shown as a bit of a goof, used mostly for comic relief, but it has been shown that Bolin can also be quite down to earth. In a situation where his other two team members out of a team of three were very lacking on teamwork due to some romantic endeavors gone wrong, he stepped up and took the place on a 1v1 fight to continue to the next round, as his friends were obviously off the game, which he won. These are characteristics of an earthbender; Stubborn, and unyielding.

Despite his laid back and funny nature, he will step up his game when he has to, proving by the end of the series to have had a massive boost in power since when he was first introduced. At first, he had difficulties raising a single wall, which he did, although it was rather shaky. By the last episode, he was seen destroying entire airstrips with ease, and managing to earthbend without being in touch with the ground to save his friend, Asami. This is a very impressive feat for an earthbender who generally has to rely on his/her physical connection to the earth to be able to earthbend properly. Like his brother, he is protective of the people he cares about, showing a more aggressive and brutal attitude than usual, like he did when protecting Asami from being killed by her own father. However, unlike his brother, he has a knack for getting his ass in trouble. His naive and enthusiastic personality is sometimes responsible for this, for example, when he accepted Shady Shin’s bodyguard job for some good and quick money that his team desperately needed, which he previously attempted to gather by making his pet, Pabu, a fire ferret perform circus tricks, a plan that failed miserably. However, taking Shady Sin’s offer caused him to be captured by the Equalists, and nearly concluded with him getting his bending taken away if he hadn’t been rescued by Mako, his brother, and the avatar, Korra. After being saved, he went to Air Temple island, where Korra lived at the time, to give her a pastry and a rose, to show his gratefulness for Korra having saved him.

Speaking of his brother, he has almost been like a father figure to him all his life, as their parents were killed off by a firebender when they were young. Mako was introduced as a sort of problem solver, and has always been there to take care of Bolin and to make sure he was alright all their lives to that point. Their brotherly bond, although not very expounded on in the series itself, is a powerful thing, and they would both certainly give their lives to protect the other. Bolin cares for Mako more than any other character in the show, although sadly, the two are almost never seen interacting.

Korra, however, is at first the source of a lot of mixed feelings for Bolin, who, being a bit of a flirt, often basking in all the attention he gets from fangirls due to his pro-bending exploits, asks Mako what he thought of her in a “girlfriend sort of way”, in his own words. Mako dissuaded him from the idea, claiming it was a bad idea to date a team mate. However, this didn’t stop him from approaching Korra after their first championship match, after she had been rejected by Mako, giving her lots of good praise, showing off his more naive, romantic side, and asked her out on a date, claiming she could use some fun. They had a great time, had some good laughs, and soon after, when he was going to meet her with a bouquet of flowers in his hand and Pabu on his shoulder, he spotted them kissing, and ran away crying, drowning his sorrow in a restaurant during the night. He had to be picked up by Mako, at which point Bolin called him a traitor, but only because he felt rejected and betrayed. Still, despite this letdown in his life, Bolin managed to move on and accept what had happened, and maintained a good relationship both with Korra and Mako, showing that he is much more mature than he lets on.

All in all, Bolin is a laid back, funny guy who isn’t afraid to step up to the situation and show people that you simply don’t mess with an earthbender. Despite giving off a childish appearance, he is, in truth, quite mature, and as the series progresses, he shows a lot of earthbending potential, which, by the last episode, allows him to perform some stunning earthbending moves.
He shows that he is always the last to give up in any given situation, and proves himself to be resourceful in many situations, even some times through his pet, Pabu, which has rescued him and his group twice.

First Person:

[As Bolin turns on the video feed, what one would be able to see in their communicators would be a completely cliché stall, make with a simple desk with a sign over it, one that said “FREE SERVICES”. The young man positioned himself in front of the desk while Pabu sat on his shoulder, and he coughed twice, preparing to speak. However, before anything could happen, one of the lousily placed nails on the sign came off and it rotated down as it hit Bolin square in the head. He fell down, almost completing a dramatic swirl before hitting the ground, but quickly got up and faced his communicator, clearly nervous.]

Uhhhhhh...! Just wait a minute, I promise everything’s alright!!

[He hastily picked up the sign and hammered it into place as fast as he could, trying his best to make sure it wouldn’t fall again. After he made sure it was all neat and tidy, he turned to the camera
and once again prepared to speak.]

Ta-daaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~!

If any of the citizens of Ruby City needs some repairing done, you can call me if you’d like! Bolin, the amazing Earthbender will be there at your disposal, all for the meager price of...!

[He makes a small break, glancing sideways at Pabu, who promptly made a little flip.]

Nothing! So if you have something that needs fixin’, I’m your man!

Third Person:

As the mysterious carriage arrived at its destination, Bolin and his fire ferret, Pabu, slowly stepped out of it, trying to get a good look at where he was. This was a city alright, but it more than certainly didn’t look like Republic city. As it became clearer and clearer that he wasn’t in some sort of a weird dream, his next thought was that he had been kidnapped. By whom, though? If this was a kidnapping, it was a very, very weird one. He looked around once more, spotting a nearby poster. As he moved to it, his communicator dropped from his pocket, activating the video feed.

“Ruby City?” He said as he looked around once more, spotting not only the exit to the train station but also the weird device on the floor. Picking it up, he stared at it, noticing it was giving off his reflection, but not in the way a mirror would. Intrigued, he fumbled around with it for a moment, putting it close to its eye, and even pressing the buttons at random for a moment to see what would happen. After alternating between the settings for a moment, he found himself back at the one he was at originally. He had no idea he was being filmed, or even what being filmed meant, so he simply put the communicator in the fabric that was wrapped around his waist and did what he thought was the most logic thing to do.

“Mako! Korra! Asami! Is anyone there?” He yelled, once, then twice, and countless more times. Realizing the futility of this, he prepared to leave the train station, intent on figuring on what the hell was going on and finding his friends. He picked up his little furry friend and put him on his shoulder, and looked intently at the exit. The Equalists may have been defeated, but it seemed life had more in store for this earthbender.

“Let’s go, Pabu, it looks like we have some investigating to do.”
